Six Keys To Maturing In Your Faith

SIXTH KEY

00:00 / 24:48

“But far be it from me to boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.” Galatians 6:14

The world can be like a parade passing in front of us. With lots of fanfare, bright lights and marching bands. But, this is all smoke and mirrors. The parade is going to nowhere, except to hell.

So, the apostle John admonishes us, “Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life—is not from the Father but is from the world. And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.” I John 2:15-17

We can be dead to the world and the world to us. The first part of this is much easier. With Christ, we were crucified. His death became our death. “We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin.” Romans 6:6.

The second part is more difficult. We have to take the action to reject the pull of the world upon our flesh. “So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus……. Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness.” Romans 6:11,13
